The goal of our training seminar is to make Contact &
Cover an instinctive, intuitive part of your daily officer
safety response for people and car stops and radio calls.
• The Contact & Cover Seminar: Two-Officer Suspect Control
A half-day tactical program for patrol officers and deputies.
• Developed and taught by Steve Albrecht
Author - Streetwork and Surviving High-Risk Patrol
• Based on the book by Sgt. Steve Albrecht and Lt. John Morrison,
both from the San Diego Police Department
Change, in most law enforcement agencies, is often driven by events. We change our policies, equipment, response, or tactics, usually only after an officer or deputy has been injured or killed. The way we do business in the field is always affected by the bad people we face. Merely surviving high-risk police encounters with one or more suspects, is just not good enough. Today, we must want to win.
The Contact & Cover tactical approach was born out of the assaults and deaths of many good officers and deputies over the last 20 years. It's our goal to help you work the streets with more confidence, so that you and your partners will respond instinctively, using a set of structured yet flexible guidelines. The Contact & Cover approach will give each officer or deputy who uses it, the maximum tactical advantage in field encounters where there is one or more unrestrained suspects nearby.
The Contact & Cover seminar will provide you with battle-tested field techniques to help you win every suspect encounter on the unpredictable and always dangerous streets. This half-day program is designed in two parts. It starts with classroom lectures, using videos and slides, and then it moves to a hands-on practice session, including: normal car and pedestrian stops; high-risk stops and arrests; pat-downs and searches; preventing escapes, pursuits, assaults, and gun takeaways; weapons retention training (using Red Guns); and a serious discussion about the use of deadly force.
Every participant receives a copy of the original Contact & Cover book, a laminated pocket-sized Field Card featuring the Contact & Cover roles and duties, articles about the Contact & Cover approach, and a Certificate of Completion at the end.
