In 1999, Steve Albrecht retired from the San Diego Police Department, where he had worked since 1984, both as a regular officer and later as a reserve sergeant. For six years, he served as a part-time investigator in the San Diego Police Domestic Violence Unit and handled over 1,500 cases.
His police tactical books include: Surviving Street Patrol, Streetwork, and One-Strike Stopping Power (written under Steve's pen name, "Frank Albert"). He co-wrote CONTACT & COVER: Two-Officer Suspect Control with Lt. John Morrison, (San Diego Police, Ret.).
For 14 years, Steve wrote the "Streetwork" officer safety column for the award-winning San Diego Police Officers Association publication, The Informant. In 1999, he won a San Diego Press Club award for "Streetwork," as the best column in a monthly newspaper.
He manages Albrecht Training & Development, a San Diego, CA-based firm that provides training and consulting on police tactical programs, workplace violence prevention, domestic violence and stalking, and threat assessment and management, subjects where he is internationally recognized. Besides police training program, Steve also teaches sexual harassment seminars, HR investigations, drug and alcohol awareness, and stress management for dispatchers.
His other books include Added Value Negotiating; Fear and Violence On The Job; and Ticking Bombs: Defusing Violence In The Workplace (which was one of the first business books published on workplace violence).
He holds a doctoral degree in Business Administration, an M.A. in Security Management, and a B.A. in English. He is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS). He is the elected national secretary of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) and a member of the San Diego County District Attorney's Stalking Strike Force.
